The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is a journey of faith for adults seeking to enter fully into the life of the Catholic Church. Through prayer, formation, and participation in the life of the parish, you will have the opportunity to deepen your relationship with Christ, explore the teachings and traditions of the Church, and prepare to receive the Sacraments.
If you were baptized in another Christian church with a Baptism recognized by the Catholic Church, you will not be baptized again. Through OCIA, you will learn about the Catholic faith and prepare to be received into full communion with the Catholic Church and receive the appropriate Sacraments.
The Catholic Church recognizes Baptism from many Christian traditions, including the Orthodox, Episcopal/Anglican, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Methodist, and many other Christian churches.
If you are unsure whether your Baptism is recognized, we will help you determine this as part of the process.
If you were baptized in the Catholic Church but have not received First Holy Communion, OCIA is the appropriate path for you to complete your Sacraments of Initiation.
If you have already received Baptism and First Holy Communion in the Catholic Church and only need Confirmation, you do not need to participate in OCIA. Our Adult Confirmation Program is designed for you.
Every person's journey is different. If you are unsure where you were baptized, whether your Baptism is recognized by the Catholic Church, which Sacraments you have received, or which program is right for you, we will help you determine the appropriate next step.
