  • FAQs

    • Do we need to be registered parishioners of St. Peter's Church/Our Lady of Victory?
      • Yes. Marriage preparation through St. Peter's Church is available only to registered parishioners of St. Peter's Church or Our Lady of Victory, or to couples who reside within our parish boundaries. Marriage preparation is ordinarily completed through a couple's own parish.

    • Do both of us need to attend the appointments?
      • Yes. Both parties are required to attend all wedding preparation appointments unless otherwise approved by the priest.
    • What if one of us is not Catholic?
      • To be married in the Catholic Church, at least one party must be a baptized Roman Catholic. If one party is not Roman Catholic, an additional canonical form and a dispensation (permission from the Catholic Church) is required.

    • One of us is a baptized Christian (non-Catholic). Do we need an updated Baptism Certificate?
      • If one party is a baptized Christian (non-Catholic), a copy of his or her Baptism Certificate is required, but a recently issued certificate is not necessary.

    • What if one of us has been married before?
      • A prior marriage, whether civil or religious, requires additional review and documentation before marriage preparation can continue. If either party has a prior marriage, a separate appointment with a priest is required as soon as possible. Additional canonical forms and review by the Archdiocese and Tribunal is required.
    • Is there an additional fee for a dispensation or additional canonical form?
      • Yes. There is an additional $50 administrative fee paid to the Archdiocese for each form reviewed by the Chancery or Tribunal of the Archdiocese of New York.
    • What if we need to reschedule?
      • Please contact weddingtransmissions@spcolr.org or visit the booking portalto reschedule your appointment.
    • We cannot meet the priest on a Saturday. Can we schedule a weekday?
      • No. Wedding appointments are held on Saturdays between 12:00pm and 2:00pm based on priest availability.

    • Can we mail or email our documents?
      • No. Documents must be reviewed with a priest during scheduled appointments.
    • Can someone else drop off our documents for us?
      • No. Documents are reviewed only during scheduled appointments with the couple present.
    • What happens if our file is incomplete?
      • Incomplete files cannot be reviewed and will require a new appointment. You may reschedule your appointment through the booking portal or by contacting weddingtransmissions@spcolr.org.

    • What happens after our file is submitted?
      • After submission, the Archdiocese of New York and the receiving Diocese manage the transmission process. Your wedding church becomes your primary point of contact regarding receipt of the file.
    • How long does the Chancery or Diocese take to review the file?
      • St. Peter’s Church does not control review timelines at the Archdiocese of New York or the receiving Diocese. A minimum of 3 months is required between your completed second appointment and your wedding date.
